Photographer of the Week #145 Jordan Madge

Jordan Madge (b.1994) is a photographer based in Melbourne, Australia. His work is concerned with journey, and ways of constructing and disseminating narrative in photography. In 2015 he graduated with a Bachelor of Photography (Documentary) at Photography Studies College Melbourne.

Madge’s photographs act as viewpoints into a fractured narrative, revealing spaces in-between occupation and pauses in-between actions. By grouping images into visual sentences, with flexibility in their narrative endpoint, the viewer is confronted with the subtleties of what is simultaneously revealed and obscured. The disappearance of a young girl in a small town in Australia inspires the images found in the series Red Herring, through conceptual cropping, image appropriation and found photographs; Madge creates specific parameters of information, challenging our interpretation of narrative fiction and documentary photography.
