Photographer of the Week #94: Peter Nicholson

Our next select is Peter Nicholson, who currently lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island. In his series Poughkeepsie, Nicholson profiles the Hudson Valley city and it’s socio-economic disparities.

The low contrast and hazy tone of Nicholson’s photographs gives the impression that they exist in an alternate reality. Lifeless, they focus on structural situations that occur, odd pairings of residential housing and quiet foliage. The photographs themselves don’t scream, but speak subtly about a city that has greatly transformed over its economic decline.

Nicholson’s work acts as an ongoing observation of the cities and the people around him, maintaining a consistent palette and angle of perception exclusive to himself. Find more of his work online here.
