Curated by Sophie Morner & JOFF, July 2013.

This 162 page full color publication takes on what it is to be masculine. Moving through a rugged narrative of masculine aesthetic and habitation, refusing to buy into or shun stereotypes, Capricious Issue No. 14—Masculine focuses a wide lens. And yet our intentions are not to create a comprehensive survey or modern definition but a clear, intricate perspective among many—the Capricious Masculine. It is gentle but still aggressive, it is violent, but safe, it is things that we can identify with, but also things that we never understood. This issue is a conversation, subtle intonations and pointed juxtapositions, that are at once, familiar and alien. We hope the Capricious Masculine sparks continued speculation and dialogue as it has with us.Is this Masculine? We say yes every time, but don’t expect it to be the right answer. Because the wrong answer can be better.
